D.A.R.E. Officer Promoted to Sergeant

The Orange Police Department held a formal swearing in ceremony for Detective John Aquino to the rank of Sergeant Friday, July 5 at Police Headquarters. Friends, family, and fellow police officers of Aquino came out to celebrate the advancement and his achievement on the force. {{more}}

Chief Robert Gagne led the ceremony while Aquino’s wife of 20 years, Francine, pinned his new badge on to him. Police Commission Chairman Don Lewis stepped up and administered the Oath of Office.

“John’s efforts have been a cornerstone of our crime prevention here in Orange,” said Gagne during the ceremony, “and we appreciate all the hard work you have done very, very much.”

Forty-six year old Aquino is an 18-year veteran of the department. He graduated from the University of Bridgeport in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and associate’s degree in paralegal studies. On June 23, 1995, he was appointed as a probationary officer. Aquino was then assigned to the patrol division from June 1995 to February 2008. For the past five years, he has worked in the investigated services unit where he served as the Youth and D.A.R.E. officer and also school resource officer. Aquino has also gone to school to be a child passenger safety technician and a member of the Orange Police Department’s A.T.V. unit.

Aquino is also the father of two sons, John and Michael.

Food and beverages were served following the ceremony.
