Last month, the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection and Connecticut Interactive developed a mobile application, “CTPrepares”, at no cost to taxpayers.

CTPrepares is the 21st century way to reach state residents. We must remember that during an emergency every second counts and constant communication is a vital.

“CTPrepares” provides Connecticut residents with information and alerts in emergency situations, and also gives useful information to prepare in advance of an emergency.

The app can be downloaded for free from the iTunes Apple Store for Apple devices and Google Play for Android devices.

The app allows residents to communicate with family members during an emergency and provides real-time notifications including emergency news, state office closings, public safety messages and up-to-the-minute information for residents. It also locates Connecticut Emergency Management contacts and provides emergency preparation guides.

In the first month, “CTPrepares” mobile application has been downloaded more than 6,300 times.

This is a good tool to have on hand in the unlikely event that it becomes necessary. It is always best to be as prepared as possible for the unexpected. For a guide on how to use the app, please click here to open a PDF instruction packet.
