Man Critical After Morning Crash

A man is in critical condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital following a crash on Orange Center Road this morning at 7:23 a.m. The 67-year-old was riding a motorcycle that collided with a Sport Utility Vehicle according to Orange Police.

He was not wearing a helmet.

According to a release from the department, Orange Police were notified of a motor vehicle crash with serious injuries on Derby Avenue (Rt. 34) near the intersection of Orange Center Road (Rt. 152).  On arrival officers found the crash involved a Sport Utility vehicle and a motorcycle, with the motorcyclist suffering significant injuries including a life threatening head injury.

The motorcyclist was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital and is currently listed as critical.  He is a 67-year-old male whose name is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Preliminary information shows that the operator of the SUV changed lanes and the motorcycle then made contact with the rear of the SUV.  The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and is cooperating with this investigation.  This crash occurred during a period of moderate traffic volume, and anyone who may have witnessed it is asked to contact Orange Police to assist in the reconstruction of this incident.  Contact 203-891- 2130 and ask for Sergeant LaPlante, or email rlaplante@orange-ct.gov
