Dining Out: Mexico Tipico

Every time I drove past the former Pizzeria Uno in Milford last fall, I wondered what might be going on with the building. At the Artisan Festival in Orange a couple weeks ago, I was delighted to find out that a new restaurant was there.

Mexico Tipico, Authentic Mexican Restaurant opened in January of this year. We went for dinner on a recent weeknight and were thoroughly delighted with our experience. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and seated in the beautifully decorated dining room. I have never been to Mexico personally, but I certainly felt like the ambiance lived up to what I would picture as the Authentic Mexican experience. Traditional music was playing in the background. We were immediately served complimentary chips and salsa while we perused the menu.

The menu is quite extensive and beautifully detailed in description. Not having the advantage of knowing Spanish, I felt quite at ease with my dinner choice. Mexico Tipico offers a wide range of appetizers and soups to start. We opted for the Tacos Dona Maria, which are deep fried tacos, filled with potatoes and topped with a red sauce and garnish. They were very flavorful and quite filling.

The entrees feature a wide variety of enchiladas, quesadillas and burritos; as well as an entire page of beef, chicken and fish original creations. The combination meals are served in two sizes and consist of various assortments of enchiladas, tostadas, tacos and burritos. All combinations are served with rice and beans and choice of cheese; chicken, ground beef or shredded beef. For anyone who may not be a fan of Mexican food, several choices of hamburgers and grilled chicken sandwiches are available.

I chose the chicken and steak fajitas for dinner, served sizzling hot a skillet. ‘Muy Caliente’ proclaimed our waitress as she served the very aromatic skillet. The presentation was beautiful. Paul opted for the Burrito supreme with ground beef, served under a delicious looking layer of melted cheese. I have to say that the taste of both of these entrees was incredible. Both were prepared with very fresh ingredients and had wonderful rich flavor.

We hadn’t noticed until after we ordered, but we saw several other tables had ordered the fresh guacamole, prepared table side. If only I had seen that option earlier! Well, we will just have to go back, now that we know. I will also order one of the many margaritas that sounded so delicious from the full bar.

For a restaurant that had just opened in January of this year, it is run beautifully. The entire staff is very friendly, the service was very efficient and the atmosphere is very upbeat. On the way out, I ordered an entrée of taco’s and churros for my daughter Victoria.

It was prepared very quickly and she thoroughly enjoyed her dinner as well. Mexico Tipico is well worth the short drive from Orange; the location at 1061 Boston Post Road in Milford is very convenient, just past the mall and the I-95 ramp. Plenty of parking and easy access. Mexico Tipico can be reached at 203-713-8887 and is open daily from 11am-11pm.
