Milford United Way Presents “60 Days of Giving” Celebration on Facebook

To honor their 60th Anniversary, the Milford chapter of the United Way has been traveling down memory lane on their Facebook page to showcase the work that the United Way and other groups affiliated with the United Way have done over the last 60 years.

Calling it the “60 Days of Giving” celebration, the organization has posted everything from current charitable drives to old photographs from past kick-offs in order to reflect and celebrate the work that The United Way, Bridges Healthcare, the Boys and Girl Scouts and various other organizations have done over the last six decades.

“Sometimes when you’re so close to the action and you’re keeping up with day-to-day activities you’re not able to step back and smell the roses so to speak,” said United Way President and CEO Gary Johnson. “But the fact that people are mentioning this makes me look at it in a different way and say ‘we have accomplished a lot; we’ve done a lot of good things in the community and we’ve helped a lot of people.’ Every year about 18,000 people out of a population of about 53,000 in Milford either use, or are helped by United Way supported services. That is roughly one out of three people so again, it helps to step back and look at what we have accomplished.”

The organization is still posting one post per day to celebrate the anniversary and is roughly half way through their 60 posts over 60 days goal. To view these posts and follow along, visit https://www.facebook.com/UnitedWayMilford/
