Acampora, Ellen

Ellen Theresa Acampora, 89, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Elias J. Acampora, passed away on April 13, 2021. Ellen was born on September 12, 1931 in the Bronx, NY to the late Ernest Downs and Josephine Santora and Peter Santora her step-father.

Ellen worked for many years as a waitress in Milford at several restaurants and as a cafeteria worker for the Milford Board of Education. She was an avid walker and reader and enjoyed outings with her friends. Ellen cherished every moment that she spend with her grandchildren.

Ellen is survived by her son, David E. (Janet) Acampora; daughter, Theresa A. Mester; grandchildren, Joseph (Emily Cook) Mester, Nicole (Andrew) Korb, Samantha Acampora and Jacob Acampora; and several nieces and nephews. Ellen was predeceased by her siblings, Madeline Hart and Joseph Santora; and her son-in-law, Paul E. Mester.

Aronson, Nelly M.

Nelly M. Aronson, 92, longtime resident of Milford, beloved wife of the late Fred C. Aronson, passed away peacefully at home on April 4, 2021. Born on October 12, 1928 in Astoria, NY, she was the daughter of the late John Guy and Debora Martinez.

Nelly graduated from the Mary Louis Academy in 1946 before moving to CT in 1948. She worked as a statistition/editor for Standard & Poors for 33 years. Nelly was an avid roller skater in her younger days and also taught ballroom dancing in both the Milford school system and privately for adults. She was the third president of the original Milford Women’s Club, a past president of the Devon Lady Lions Club, and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol while living in New York during World War II.

Nelly leaves behind her children, Debora (Gregory Donohue) O’Brien and Nancee (Ron) Taylor; grandchildren, Sean (Beth) O’Brien, Jon Paul Stevens, and Heather (Edwin) Peckham; and great grandchildren, Hayley Fitch, Kaitlyn Peckham, Edwin “EJ” Peckham, and Corbin O’Brien.

Baillargeon, Marc Alain

Marc Alain Baillargeon, 35, of Milford, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 12, 2021. He was the beloved son of Bruno and Lise Baillargeon.

Marc was born on January 27, 1986 in Bridgeport and raised in Milford. He worked for MW Construction & Remodeling of Middlebury. There, he took great pride in his craftsmanship as a carpenter. Marc had a love for nature; he enjoyed walking trails of Connecticut, beach boardwalks and watching shoreline sunsets.  Marc enjoyed rooting for his beloved New York sports teams: the Rangers, Yankees, and Giants.

Along with his parents, Marc leaves behind his beloved sons, Justin and Brody; devoted brothers, Jason and his wife, Sue, of Derby, and Kevin and his wife, Caitlin, of Bethany; nieces and nephews, Kaitlyn, Avery, and Kaden; the mothers of his sons, Emilie Dumais-Arsenault (Justin) and Kaitlyn Prussin (Brody); and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Saint Ann Church (Saint Raphael Parish), 501 Naugatuck Ave., Milford (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Masks will be required.

Barnes, Charles F. Sr.

Charles Franklin Barnes Sr., age 86, of Milford, beloved husband of Amelia Raymond Barnes for 64 years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 7th, 2021 with his family by his side. He was born in Norwalk on May 21, 1934 to the late Albert and Mary Ready Barnes. He was a US Army veteran and was the owner of Barney Signs Services for many years. Charles was a proud DAV member and an active parishioner in the United Church of Christ in Devon. Survivors, in addition to his wife Amelia, include his son, Charles Barnes Jr. (Denise) of Milford and his extended family, Gregory and Rose Marie Nolan. Services will be private. Barta, Ilona

Ilona Barta, age 76, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Zoltan Barta, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021 surrounded by her family. Ilona was born in Hungary on March 4, 1945. She moved to the United States and raised her family in Milford, CT. She was a machine operator at Bic Corporation and loved spending time with her family. Survivors include her daughter, Hilda Davis of Milford, grandchildren; Tyler Davis of FL and Layne Jackson of Milford and two great-grandchildren; Aidin and Nova Davis. Ilona is predeceased by her daughter, Erika Barta. Services will be private.

 

Blotney, Patricia C.
Patricia C. Blotney, 70, of Milford, beloved wife of the late William Blotney, passed away at her home on April 17, 2021. Born on October 16, 1950 in Bridgeport, CT, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Jean Holcomb Condon.

Patricia worked for over 30 years as a secretary at Sikorsky. There she met her dearest friends, Debbi and Terry, and together they enjoyed many years of fun and laughter. She loved cooking, knitting and reading. Patricia also enjoyed a good cup of tea, but nothing brought her more joy than spoiling her grandchildren.

Patricia is survived by her sons, Eddie Blotney and Tiffany Richards and Jason Blotney and his wife Heather Volosin; her grandchildren, Cole and Cooper; her nieces and nephew, Jaime, Kimberly and Andrew; her sisters-in-law, Maureen Blotney and Cindy (Rich) McBath; and her Basset Hound, Bentley. In addition to her husband, Patricia was predeceased by her brother, Jeffrey Condon; step-mother, Esther Condon; and brother-in-law, Paul Blotney.

Bonsanque, Paul

Paul Bonsangue, 80, of Milford, beloved husband of Toni Bonsangue, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2021. Paul was born on November 6, 1940 in Canicatti, Sicily to the late Salvatore and Teresa Bonsangue.

Paul was a fantastic dancer who was known for breaking out in a merengue but could also move perfectly to music of the 50’s. He spent Sunday afternoons watching sports, especially rooting for the NY Jets and Mets. Paul enjoyed Italian food and the few trips he took back home to Sicily were near and dear to his heart. Above all else, Paul loved being a husband, father and grandfather. He cherished the time spent with his family, and was entirely devoted to them.

In addition to his wife, Toni, Paul is survived by his sons, Salvatore (Anabelle) Bonsangue and Louis (Kristin) Bonsangue; grandchildren, Juliet and Michael Bonsangue; siblings, Domenica Buggé and Joseph Bonsangue; and his best friend, Anthony Chipello. Paul was predeceased by his sister, Dina Cancialosi.

Callahan, Kimberly

Kimberly Ann Callahan, 59, of Milford, beloved wife of 28 years to Thomas Callahan, passed away on April 9, 2021. Born on January 17, 1962 in New Haven, she was the daughter of Geraldine Licciardi and the late John Licciardi.

Kimberly graduated from East Haven High School in 1980. She was a member of the color guard for the CT Classics Jr. Drum & Bugle Corp. She worked for the Town of Orange at the High Plains Community Center for 17 years, and loved interacting with all of the Orange senior residents she saw day-to-day, as well as planning events. Most of all, Kimberly enjoyed spending time with her family and loved them fiercely.

Along with her husband, Kimberly leaves behind her daughter, Erin Callahan; brother, Andrew Licciardi and his wife, Alisa; niece, Lynn Licciardi; and many close friends and extended family.

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Thursday, April 15, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford. 06460. Codeanne, John H. III

John H. “Jack” Codeanne, III, resident of Milford for 57 years and loving husband for over 60 years to Marilyn Torgerson Codeanne, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2021 at Bridgeport Hospital after a brief illness. Jack was born in New Haven, CT on December 6, 1935 to the late John H. Codeanne, Jr. and Josephine Liguori Codeanne.

Jack graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven in 1954, attended Quinnipiac University, and faithfully served his country as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He retired as a manager from the Southern New England Telephone Company (SNET) after over 30 years of service. Upon his mother’s death in 1975, Jack assumed ownership of her business, Josephine Dress Shoppe, a staple in downtown Branford for over 40 years.

He also served his state and community in the following ways: Jack was a member of the Governor’s Task Force on Housing under Governor Thomas Meskill. He was Administrative Assistant to the House Majority Leader, Gerald Stevens, in Hartford, as well as his campaign manager. He was Chairman of the Milford Housing Authority, Chairman of the Milford Republican Party’s Fourth District Committee and Chairman of SNET’s Milford-West Haven Community Relations Team. Jack was also a member of the Board of Directors for Boy’s Village Youth and Family Services, member of the Heritage Council of the Telephone Pioneers of America, member of the Credit Committee for the New Haven Telephone Employees Federal Credit Union, secretary of The Exchange Club of Orange, and member of the Foran High School Sports Building Committee. Jack was a member of the Board of Directors for Southern Connecticut Youth Hockey, as well as coached his children’s sport teams in Milford, including girls basketball and softball, Little League baseball, and YMCA flag football.

In addition to his beloved wife, Marilyn, he is survived by his adoring children, Carol Codeanne Teixeira (Michael) of North Haven, Sharon Codeanne of Cheshire, Nancy Codeanne Degnan of Milford, and John H. Codeanne IV (Eileen) of South Carolina. His loving grandchildren, Nicholas Kupec and Lauren Kupec Lilien (Robert), Emily, Alissa, and Ethan Candal, Matthew Degnan, and Lani and Colin Codeanne. Also survived by his stepgranddaughter, Alexis Teixeira; along with his former son-in-law, Carlos Candal; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Jack was predeceased by his brother, William F. Codeanne, and his son-in-law, Edward J. Degnan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Agnes Church (Precious Blood Parish), 400 Merwin Ave., Milford, CT (MEET DIRECTY AT CHURCH). D’Alessandro, Marion R.

Marion R. D’Alessandro, age 87, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Thomas J. D’Alessandro, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at her home in Milford. She was born in Bridgeport, CT on August 1, 1933 to the late Genio and Laura Lazzara Cicero. Marion was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She graduated from Warren Harding High School in 1951 and married her husband Tom in 1953. They shared 44 wonderful years together.

When her children were older, Marion worked part-time, including 25 years at Stop & Shop in Stratford, CT where she formed lasting friendships. She never could contain her laughter when she recalled a few road trips with Peggy and Marilyn that challenged their collective sense of direction.

Through the years, Marion and her childhood friend Viola continued sharing stories from youth and beyond with telephone conversations many times lasting an hour.

Marion enjoyed gardening and taking care of her yard. Her flower garden brought her quite a few compliments from passersby through the years. She also had cooking and baking specialties. Her mouthwatering eggplant parmesan and tasty sour cream coffee cake were favorites for many. Her daughter always requested Marion’s pineapple cream cheese pie as her birthday dessert.

In her retirement, Marion volunteered for several years in The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp’s administrative office, assisting with fundraising mailings. She took pride in making sure the mailing labels she applied to envelopes were always straight.

Survivors include her children: Linda Cassidy and her husband Michael of Durham and Thomas D’Alessandro of Milford, sister-in-law, Mary D’Alessandro and several nieces and nephews. Marion is predeceased by her brother Robert Cicero and brothers-in-law, Albert D’Alessandro and John D’Alessandro.

Marion’s family would like to thank her hospice team (especially Fran, Aurea and Richard) for treating her with compassion and continually attempting to bring her comfort as she dealt with challenging chronic health issues. Her family would also like to thank her kind caregivers – Yves, Clivea, Rosie, Racquel, Suzie Q and Malyr.

Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral mass on Monday, April 26th at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Ann Church (Saint Raphael Parish), 501 Naugatuck Avenue, Milford. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.

Marion’s smile, laughter, love, kindness and thoughtfulness will be greatly missed and she will always be in the hearts of her family and friends.

Daniels, Donald

Donald (Don) Daniels, age 59, of Milford, formerly of Seymour, passed unexpectedly and peacefully into eternal rest on Monday, April 26, 2021. Don was born on April 2, 1962, in Bridgeport to Pascal B. and Lillian (Papalia) Daniels, of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Trumbull, CT. He was the third of six children. He graduated from Umass in 1983 and was self-employed as a General Contractor. Don was a fun-loving son, brother, uncle, friend. He brought laughter and joy to all who knew him. He was the life of the party. He was always smiling. He embraced all of life but some of his great passions include: cooking, fishing, tennis, and recently painting. Don was always willing to lend a helping hand and was called upon often by friends and family. Don never shied away from a good debate, but he always prayed for world peace.

Don is survived by his loving parents, and his siblings; Richard Daniels of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Steven Daniels of Bridgeport, John Daniels and his wife Michele of Madison, Patricia Pergolizzi and her husband John of Old Saybrook and Alisa Wright and her husband Timothy of Litchfield. And many, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and his very special best friend, Chris Cranos, and many lifelong friends who were like family to him. He will be dearly missed by all.

Darak, Dennis John, Sr.
Dennis John Darak, Sr., age 74 of Milford, passed away April 28, 2021 at home with his loving family by his side. Dennis was born in Bridgeport, June 21, 1946, son of the late John Darak, Jr. and Elsa Kleban Darak. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Johnstone Company of North Haven. He was a member and Past Master of Ansantawae Lodge No. 89 of Milford, thrice Illustrious Master of Adam Satig No. 35, 32nd Degree Mason. Shriner, Knights Templar, and Jolly Mariner. He was also an active member of Mary Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church of Milford, Motorcycle instructor for the State of Connecticut, Past Officer of Goldwing Road Riders Association, and the Sterling Ski Club. He leaves behind his beloved wife Judith Jones Darak, his children Lisa Darak-Druck (Diana), and D.J. Darak (Shannon), his grandchildren Alexa and Coltin Darak, his sister Donna Darak, his nephew Patrick Jones, his niece Tammy Jones Reilly, and many beloved cousins. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 15th at 11am at Walnut Beach Pavilion in Milford. Interment will be private. DeForest, Richard
Richard DeForest of Milford, CT passed away peacefully on April 23, 2021. Born in Bridgeport on January 17, 1927, Richard spent his entire 94 years living and working in Connecticut. He is survived by his loving wife Betty DeForest and her four children, George Jennings, Kevin Jennings, Craig and Beth Jennings and Cheryl Jennings. He also has a surviving daughter Leslie Robetucci.
Richard’s true passion was music. A lifelong musician, he played the saxophone and clarinet and performed for years with the Milford Community Band. His favorite styles of music were Big Band Orchestra and all forms of Jazz. Richard and Betty enjoyed travelling throughout the country for many years to jazz festivals.
Richard worked for 31 years until the age of 71 as a licensed electrician for the Town of Fairfield BOE. He was a popular personality throughout the Fairfield school system.

Dorio, Jonathan P.
Jonathan P. Dorio, age 34, of Milford, died on Friday, April 2, 2021 at his home. Jon was born in Bridgeport, CT on June 9, 1986 to Laura Barry Dorio of Milford and the late George J. Dorio. He graduated from Jonathan Law High School in 2004. Jon was a bright light and his favorite thing to do was making people laugh. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his brother Nicholas G. Dorio of Milford and sister, Kathy A. Hoyer (Bent) of NJ and several nephews, uncles and cousins. Jonathan was predeceased by his sister, Amy E. Dorio. A walk-through visitation will be held on Friday April 9th from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. in The Gregory F. Gilbert, Harry Douglas III

On Saturday, April 24, 2021 Harry Douglas Gilbert III entered into eternal peace surrounded by his loving family.  Born on June 26, 1948 to Harry D. Gilbert Jr. and Antoinette Gilbert, he attended Milford High School, class of 1967.  Upon graduation, Harry enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam Conflict. Harry was a carpenter by trade and loved building houses. He was a very proud, hardworking and dedicated man.

Harry is survived by his soulmate, Diane and his three children: Jennifer Gilbert, Crystal Gilbert Barros, her spouse John, and Harry Gilbert IV.  Harry also leaves behind his grandchildren Aiden, Hannah and Alexis the “Dancing Queen” Barros.

Private services will be held at the family’s discretion.

Giotsas, Nikolaos

Nikolaos (Niko) Giotsas, age 90, of Milford, entered eternal life on April 24, 2021, at Milford Hospital. Niko was born August 18, 1930, at Agio Spyridon, Greece, the son of the late George Giotsas and Steriani Tzimas. He served in the Greek Army and was later united in marriage to the former Yannoula Papachristos on December 22, 1958. He and his wife worked hard on their farm and build a house brick by brick. He completed the two-story house with a store front café. His success in business did not stop him from seeking new adventures. In 1966, he moved with his wife and two daughters to the U.S. They settled in Bridgeport and he began working for his brother at City Cleaners. He later had two sons.

Niko always wanted to see his children succeed in life and helped them every chance he had. He helped them with their education and their businesses. He retired at an early age but continued to help his sons in their businesses. In retirement he enjoyed going to the mall and meeting his friends to discuss the events of the world.

Niko was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed gardening at home and cooking for family and friends. He was a proud family man, and they meant the world to him.

Nikolaos Giotsas is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, his daughters and sons, Kathy Giotsas of Milford, Panayiota her husband Athanasios Noulas, of Thessaloniki Greece, George his wife Peggy Giotsas of Ellington, Chris his wife Joanna Giotsas of Canton; grandchildren, George his wife Semina Noulas, Polyxeni Noulas, Katrina Giotsas, Nikolaos Giotsas, Nikolas Giotsas, Dimitra Giotsas, Yannoula Giotsas, and Maria Giotsas; and one great-grandson, Athanasios Noulas. He was survived by his sister Maria Prassas and predeceased by four siblings, Antonis, Spyros, Dimitrios and Eugenia Papalexiou.

The “Rite of Burial” will take place on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 11 a.m. in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Avenue, Bridgeport officiated by Father Georgios Livaditis, Presbyter, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven, Trumbull. Calling hours will take place Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until time of service in the church. Please wear masks while attending all services. Graham, Elizabeth

Known as “Simmy” to most, Elizabeth P. Graham, age 90, of Woodbridge, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 25, 1931 at Saint Raphael Hospital in New Haven, CT, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Dora (Klempner) and Benjamin Pious. She grew up in New Haven, graduating from Hillhouse High School in 1949 and University of Rochester in 1953, earning a BA in History. Elizabeth taught high school history for several years and then lived her married life as a homemaker. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, surrogate mom, and friend anyone could ask for. She is survived by love of her life, her husband Andrew Graham, MD of over 65 years, her beloved children — her son Scott Graham of Scottsdale, AZ, her daughter Cynthia Schilling of Bloomfield, CT, her daughter Alison Graham of Los Angeles, CA, along with her four grandchildren Michael Graham, Karin Graham, and Melissa Graham of Scottsdale, AZ and Tamar Faggen of Los Angeles, CA who meant the world to her, as well as many nieces and nephews, all whom she adored and they her. Elizabeth served as secretary on the Connecticut Ballet board, secretary for the Woodbridge-Bethany League of Women Voters, and was a member of the Woodbridge Garden Club. A loving, caring, nurturing, fun, and funny person who cherished time spent with family and friends. She looked forward to family holidays, especially Passover spending hours delightfully preparing gefilte fish from scratch using whole carp, whitefish, and pike. Elizabeth made her home a haven. She had an impeccable eye for decorating and an elegant sense of style. She loved to travel, garden, and read everything she could, especially The New Yorker and The New York Times, always completing the daily crossword puzzle, in pen. She will be remembered for her kind heart, generous spirit, sharp mind, and her devotion to her husband, family, and friends nationally and internationally. Funeral Services are private. Julia Grigoriadis, 59, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2021 in the presence of her loving husband and devoted daughters after a short, but courageous, battle with cancer.

Julia is predeceased by her father, Elias Galantis, and is survived by her husband, Konstantinos (“Gus”) Grigoriadis; her daughters, Virginia (Sabatino) Kikis, Eleni (Danny) Vega, and Ipakoi Grigoriadis; her grandchildren, Stavros, Julia, Allison and Julia; her mother, Virginia Galantis; her sister, Ipakoi (Hristos) Paridis; her nieces, Maria, Virginia, Anastasia, Julia, and Mirofora; her in-laws, Dimitri (Irene) Grigoriadis,  Manoli (Argiroula) Grigoriadis, Minas (Zografoula) Grigoriadis, Mihali (Popanti) Grigoriadis, Zografoula (George) Perselis; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, as well as hundreds of others who will miss her dearly.

Julia and Gus had a timeless and perfect love story.  They raised their three strong and beautiful daughters, and as a family they ran Pop’s Family Restaurant for 30 years.   Julia was a bright light who loved to give and help others. Her philanthropic nature was unmatched, and she went above and beyond for anyone in need.  She welcomed patrons of the restaurant as if they were family and many grew to love her as a result.   She organized countless events to feed the less fortunate on Thanksgiving and often sacrificed time with her own family to make sure others were fed.  Her loss has left many heavy and broken hearts.  There was no one kinder and she will be greatly missed.

Grinnell, Louise I.

Louise I. Grinnell, age 100, of Milford, beloved wife of the late William E. Grinnell, passed away on April 14, 2021 at CT Hospice in Branford.

She was born on September 4, 1920. She grew up in Stratford and graduated from Stratford High School. Mrs. Grinnell owned the popular Bill’s Restaurant in Devon Center with her husband for over 20 years and was an assembler at Bic Pen, Inc. in Milford for 18 years before her retirement. She enjoyed her time with the ladies in the Happy Hookers Crochet Club, also attending the Ahrens Program at the Milford Senior Center and socializing with the Breakfast Club at Pop’s Restaurant. She loved being with her family hosting “Aunt Louise’s Bash” every summer, birthday dinners with Donna, Caitlyn and Matthew Miller, “Nieces Night Out” with Marie, Margie, Barbara, Jeanann and Marma, trips to Delaware to see her sister Angeline and family and the family bus trips to Mohegan Sun.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Lisa Grinnell Ellsworth and her husband, Peter of Milford and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Iannone and his wife Jacinta, and her sisters, Angeline Krajnik, Mary Riccio and Rose Bova.

Agnes P. Hine, age 89, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Harold Hine, died on Friday, April 16, 2021. Agnes was born in Bridgeport on July 19, 1931 to the late Henry and Agnes Nelson Pawlowski. She worked at Schick for many years as the secretary to the controller. Survivors include her seven children: Agnes Marie Shepard (Douglas) of TX, Harold Hine, Jr. (Christine) of, NY, Darryl Hine (Betsy) of Milford, Anne Christine Brown (Russell) of Bethany, Donald Hine (Mariann) of Ansonia, Arnold Hine of SC and Henry Eric Hine (Victoria) of North Haven, sister, Barbara Higgins of Bridgeport, daughter-in-law, Sue Hine of VT, 20 grandchildren: Phaedra, Ariel, David, Devin, Christopher, Daryl, Carrie, Laura, Heather, Melissa, Katie, Kyle, Tabitha, Craig, Ryan, Christopher, Ashley, Sabrina, Kendle and Skylre and several great-grandchildren. Horvath, Sandor

Sandor (Sam) Horvath, age 66, formerly of Milford, husband of Susan Paul Horvath, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Born in Csykanydoroslo, Hungary on July 10, 1954, son of the late Zoltan and Katalin Horvath, Sam and his family came to the United States in 1956 and he had lived in Milford and Derby for most of his life. He had worked for the Bullard Co. and later for Sikorsky Aircraft for many years until his retirement. He also bartended at his families business, the former Kossuth Club of Bridgeport . He also substitute taught his trade (Machine Shop) at Platt Tech. Sam enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and bird watching. He also loved helping coach his son Adam while he was younger in youth football (Derby), Elvis Presley music, dancing, and the occasional trip to the casino. He was the life of the party! Sam was very proud of his Hungarian heritage and more than anything he loved his family ,and would always be surrounded by them, or on the phone with them. In addition to his wife Susan, Sam leaves behind his children, Elizabeth (Lizzy) Farinella, and her husband, Aristide, of New Canaan, Christina Horvath, and her fiancée, Anthony Berrios, of Naugatuck, Victoria Cascarelli, and her husband, Jeffrey, of Monroe, Adam Horvath of Bethany and Steven Horvath of Derby. Johnson, Sr., Kenneth W.

Kenneth W. Johnson, Sr. of Woodbridge, passed away at his home on Monday, April 5, 2021. He was married for 49 years to the late Joan Ann Hatch Johnson. He was born in New Haven on January 5, 1935 to the late Walter Perkins and Rose Saccavino Johnson. He was a proud veteran, serving his country during the Korean War in the United States Navy. At a very young age, Ken showed signs of being very artistic and equally athletic. A love for the game of hockey can be traced back to Madison Square Garden in New York where he helped his Pee Wee Hockey Team to two National Championships. He also attended the Paier College of Art in Hamden and was often recognized for his outstanding work. He, however, did not choose a career in the arts but rather took over his wife’s family business as the President and Owner of the Geo. M. Hatch Company for nearly 40 years until his retirement in 2009. Throughout his life, he still continued to paint and attended many art shows, loved to golf and was a longtime member of the Lions Club. He was the definition of a true family man. He was active in all aspects of his children and grandchildren’s lives, attending every school function, practice, game or recital. His chivalry, impeccably timed sarcasm/wit, world class ability to whistle, generosity and pure love will live on forever. Ken will be surely missed but never forgotten.

He is survived by a son, Kenneth (RoseMarie) Johnson, Jr. of New Haven, two daughters, Stephanie (Vincent Esposito) Charney of Hamden and Jeannette Johnson of New Haven, a sister, Susan Ranalli of North Branford, three sisters-in-law, Mary DePonte Johnson of Guilford, Georgia Marchulitis and Susan Hatch of East Haven and a longtime partner, Dawn Guercia of Westville, four grandchildren, Courtney (Christian) Parisi, Joseph Johnson, Zachary (Jenn) Charney and Crystal Johnson, four great-grandchildren, Julian Parisi, Abigail and Ariel Charney and Jack Johnson, as well as many nieces and nephews. Kirchberg, Betsy

Betsy Ellen Kirchberg, 70, of Red Cedar Road, daughter of the late Muriel Gerard-Kirchberg and Ernest Carl Kirchberg, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2021 at her Silverbrook Estates apartment with her live-in aide, Jasmine Thomas, and close family members by her side.

Betsy was born in New Haven on September 25, 1950, and was a lifetime resident of Orange. She graduated in 1968 from Amity High School in Woodbridge and received her Licensed Practical Nurse certificate from Emmet O’Brien Tech in Ansonia. For most of her professional career, she worked in various units at Yale- New Haven Hospital (YNHH) that included pediatric research, the surgical department, and the labor and delivery unit where she took great pride assisting in the births of countless babies. She ended her career with YNHH at the Women’s Health Center in 1993. After that, she worked for a short period of time as the school nurse and secretary for Laurel Oaks Adventist School in Hamden.

Betsy was a member of the Orange Republican Party and spent many hours helping with various organizations in the Town of Orange. She was a long-time member of the New Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church, and was an avid cook and baker. She enjoyed shopping, spending time with friends and family, and making her well-known cheesecakes and cookies.

Betsy was pre-deceased by her sister, Linda Seidman, of Harrah, OK; and brother Earl Kirchberg, of Hampden, ME. She is survived by two brothers: Paul Kirchberg and his wife, Debbie, of Orange; and Eric Kirchberg and his wife, Ivy, of New Haven; as well as Earl Kirchberg’s widow, Kallie Kirchberg, of Freeport, ME. Additional survivors include seven nephews: Nicholas Kirchberg, his wife, Aom, and their son, Maximus, of Old Orchard Beach, ME; Alexander Kirchberg and his wife, Laura, of Charlestown, MA; Demetri Kirchberg of Portland, ME; Paul Michael Kirchberg, his wife, Smita, and their daughters, Aria and Maya, of Milford; Johnathan Kirchberg, his wife, Stephanie, and their son, Ashlyn Ramos, of Woburn, MA; Michael O’Brien, his wife, Sarah, and their children, Kaitlyn, Alexandria and Jason, of West Haven, and Zachary Kirchberg of Bremerton, WA.

Lanier, Peter “Richie”

Peter “Richie” Lanier, age 82, beloved husband of Harriette (Richardson) Lanier of Milford, passed away on April 21, 2021.

He was born on September 10, 1938 in Hartford and was the son of the late Peter and Anne (Dionne) Lanier. After graduating from Milford High School in 1956, Pete joined the U.S. Army Reserves. Pete volunteered to join the U.S. Army in 1959 where he graduated from Airborne Jump School. He proudly served during the Vietnam War with the 82nd, 101st and 173rd Airborne and was later attached to special forces. He received honorable discharge in 1966. When he completed his military obligations, Pete moved back home and became a test car driver at Raybestos as well as a longshoreman in Bridgeport. He later became a custodian at Foran High School in Milford where he proudly worked for over twenty-five years while also serving as lead maintenance at his beloved Saint Ann Church. Pete also loved the outdoors and achieved Eagle scout in 1952. He continued to teach and mentor in the Boy Scouts of America for 40 years. Pete also loved fishing, culminating in a trip of a lifetime to Alaska with his son. He enjoyed watching UConn basketball as well as NY Giants football games with his family. Affectionately known by many as “P2” he will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, he leaves his four children, Michael (Melissa) Lanier, Joseph (Rebecca) Lanier, Matthew (Kim) Lanier and Sarah (Michael) Bennett and seven grandchildren, Justin Lanier, Peter and William Lanier, Jenna Lanier, Griffin, Evangeline and Autumn Bennett. He also leaves his sisters, Valerie Dionne-Lanier and Phyllis Sturtevant and many nieces and nephews. His brother, Kenneth Lanier predeceased him.

Leninger, Judith “Judy” Mary (Kmetz)

Dec 11, 1942 – April 3, 2021Judith “Judy” Mary Leninger, 78, Orange, CT returned to her heavenly home on April, 3, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. She died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Judy was born to the late Andrew and Ludmilla Kmetz on December 11, 1942 in Scranton, PA. She graduated from Andrew Warde High School in Fairfield, CT and the Bridgeport Hospital School of Radiology in 1962. She worked at Bridgeport Hospital for many years in the x-ray department, the cardiac cath lab and the cardiac rehabilitation program. She later worked for Oxford Health Plans until her retirement. Judy was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where she spent much of her time volunteering.

Judy is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Paul Sr.; her daughter Kendra Luth and son-in-law Adam of Orange; her son Paul Leninger Jr and daughter-in-law Susan of Trumbull; cherished grandchildren Melinda Luth Coutu (Andre), Cameron Luth, Paul Leninger lll and Lyle Luth; great grandson Landon Coutu; sisters Rosalie Krajcik and Dorothy Steinbrick as well as a large extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends, all of whom she loved immensely.

Daniel T. Meisenheimer III, 70, of Orange, passed away peacefully in his home on April 10, 2021 with his family by his side. He was born in Bridgeport on March 22, 1951 to the late Daniel T. and Mary Ellen Meisenheimer, Jr.

Daniel will be lovingly and fondly remembered by his sons, Daniel Meisenheimer and his wife Tasha and James Meisenheimer and his partner Sophie Butcher; his grandson, Lachlan Meisenheimer; his wife, Eda Kovaci; his first wife, Jean Meisenheimer; his brother, Richard Meisenheimer and wife Linda; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and many cousins; as well as everyone in the towns of Orange and Milford that knew him.

Daniel graduated from Notre Dame High School in West Haven in 1969 and Southern Connecticut State University in 1973. He was the Founder and President of the United States Basketball League and Vice President of Spectrum Associates in Milford, CT. Daniel was an avid sports enthusiast playing basketball with friends at Holy Infant Church. He extended his knowledge and passion for the sport through coaching his sons, Daniel and James, and the many members of the community on the Holy Infant Orangemen throughout the 90s. Daniel was also a highly active golfer, having been a member of Oak Lane Country Club and Racebrook Country Club, enjoying rounds with family and friends throughout Connecticut.

Genevieve M. Mieczkowski, age 92, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Stanley “Mickey” Mieczkowski, died on Saturday, April 24, 2021 in West Haven. Gene was born in Bridgeport on March 17, 1929 to the late Stanley and Sophia Bednarz Jerzyk. She was a longtime Milford resident and a member of the Milford Senior Center. She was an active parishioner of Saint Ann Church and their 50 + Club as well as a member of the West Shore Seniors. Mushin, Allen

Allen E Mushin, 82 of Orange, CT unexpectedly passed away Friday, April 23, 2021. Allen was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 16, 1938 to Anne and Victor Mushin. He was raised in New Haven, CT and graduated from Hill House High School in 1956. He proudly served in the US Navy as a radio operator on the USS Tingey. He spent his career as a technical writer until retirement. During retirement he was very active in the town of Orange as the leader of the CERT team for 13 years. Allen enjoyed magic, amateur (HAM) radio, and was a disc jockey on an internet radio show called The Doo Wop Cafe.The highlight of his life was spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. Allen is survived by his wife, of 60 years, Sheila Mushin (Spivak), his two children, Mark Mushin and Beth Korman, son in law, Jay Korman, sister Linda Saslow, grandchildren, Andrew Mushin and his fiance Beth Wellington, Jenna Mushin, Elana Korman, Sydney Korman, and nieces and nephews, Randi Saslow, Wendy Saslow, Betsy Spivak, and Scott Spivak. Edward A. Palma, age 90, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2021, at his home in Orange. Born on May 5, 1930, in New Haven, a son to the late Ralph & Anna Pranno Palma, Edward is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Margaret “Peggy” Sasso Palma, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was predeceased by his siblings, Fred Palma, Phil Palma, Ralph Palma, Josephine Palma Celone, and Mildred Palma Bredenberg. Edward was a proud member of the CT National Guard Band. He retired from Interstate Container Company, where he worked in sales for many years.

Alcine Panton, age 76, of Milford, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. Alcine was born in Milford on August 13, 1944 to the late Alfred and Alcine Davey Panton. She was a private practice attorney for many years and was a member of the Laurel Beach Association. Paterna, Thomas

Thomas Paterna, 74, of Stratford, formerly of Milford, beloved husband of 51 years to Patricia Paterna, passed away on April 25, 2021. Born on December 22, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas and Domenica “Minnie” Paterna.

Tom will be remembered for his kind soul, life wisdom, useless trivia and endless stories. His greatest gift was his ability to make people feel great about themselves. Whether through a kind word, compliment or joke, Tom always spread joy and laughter everywhere he went.

For 30 years Tom and his wife Pat successfully ran multiple businesses. Tom used his gift of gab to become a leader in the telecommunications security, and in his later years turned his attention to education and inspiring future generations. He earned his MBA in Marketing and was PhDabd in Management. As a professor, Tom was revered by his students as engaging, fun and genuinely caring.

Along with his wife, Tom is survived by his son, Dr. Matthew (Courtney) Paterna; grandchildren, Madelyn and Miles Paterna; sisters, Lucille (Michael) Tuminello and Felicia (Louie) Vitale; brother-in-law, Dino (Ellen) Rossi; nieces and nephews, James, Luke, and Jimmy Alfano, Lisa and Lauren Vitale, and Lauren and Jenna Rossi; and many friends. He was predeceased by his sister and her husband, Jeanette and Jimmy Alfano.

Pike, Esther I.

Esther I. Pike, 88, of Milford, CT, beloved wife of the late Edwin E. Pike, Sr., passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021, with her family by her side. She was born in Highland, IL, on July 12, 1932, the daughter of the late Elmer and Corine Haas Koch.

Esther met the love of her life of 62 years, Edwin Pike, at Highland Lake in Highland, IL and moved with him to Milford, CT to make their home for their 5 children. Esther was very proud of her children, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She considered them her greatest accomplishment. Esther was known for her wonderful baking, especially her perfect chocolate chip cookies. She was employed for many years by New England Controls, Milford.

Survivors, include her children Edwin Pike, Jr. (Roberta) of Wallingford, Linda Sadick (Greg) of CA, David Pike of PA, Cynthia Ruggeri (Paul) of Orange and Brian Pike (Janice) of Wallingford; 10 grandchildren: Jillian, Kevin, Alicia (Ryan), Sara (Nolan), Jacob, Kyle, Corrine, Matthew, Anneliese and Emily; and two great-grandchildren, Mason and Jackson, and several nieces and nephews. Esther was predeceased by her brothers, Bernard and Gerald Koch.

A walk-through visitation will be held on Saturday, April 10th, from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. in THE GREGORY F. DOYLE FUNERAL HOME, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford. Pirner, Susan B.

Susan B. Pirner (Bennett), 75, longtime resident of Milford, beloved wife of Richard Pirner, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2021. Born on March 1, 1946 in Middletown, NY, she was daughter of the late Charles and Grace Bennett.
Susan grew up in Garden City, NY and graduated from GC High School in 1964. She proceeded to attend St. Clair’s Nursing School before eventually taking a position as secretary for Doubleday Publishing. Susan enjoyed sewing, collecting dolls and building doll houses and miniature furniture, reading cozy mysteries, gardening, bird watching, painting landscapes and taking in the stray cats that would find their way to her. She was also a member of the Milford Republican Town Committee for many years.

Along with her husband, Susan leaves behind her son, Edward Pirner; and many extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Lawrence Bennett.

A walk through wake will take place on Monday, April 19, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford. Masks will be required and social distancing enforced. Seiger, Joseph R.

Joseph R. Seiger, age 94, of Milford, beloved husband of 57 years to the late Irene J. (Farkas) Seiger, passed away on April 26, 2021. He was born on September 30, 1926 In Philadelphia, PA and was the son of the late Ann Poulos. He graduated from Bassick High School and Embry-Riddle School of Aviation in FL. Mr. Seiger was a proud veteran with the U.S. Army Air Corps and served during WWII. Mr. Seiger worked as a foreman at Sikorsky Aircraft for 34 years before his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and Thursday morning breakfast with the guys. He was a member of St. Ann Church 50+ Club and a volunteer with the Milford Hospital Auxiliary. Mr. Seiger is survived by his devoted daughter, Carol A. Altieri and her husband Frank of Milford and two grandchildren, Laura Altieri (Jon Kaplan) of Stamford and Luke Altieri (Lauren Bertuzzi) of Milford. In addition to his mother and wife, he was predeceased by his loving son, Robert J. Seiger.

Steinman, MaryAnn

MaryAnn Steinman, age 83, of Milford, beloved wife of Raymond E. Steinman Jr. for 61 years, died on Monday, April 19, 2021.  MaryAnn was born in New York, NY on June 8, 1937 to the late Alphons and Marie (Cieslinski) Blatz.  She was a secretary at Waterbury Lock and later the lunch lady at Pumpkin Delight Elementary School for 30 years.

Maryann enjoyed traveling with her husband, Ray,  anywhere their Chevy van would take them.  She especially enjoyed Niagara Falls and Disney World. She deeply loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children: Elizabeth and Craig Carr of Milford, Kathleen Mahieu of Simsbury, John and Linda Steinman of North Haven, Susan and Thomas Coleman of Milford and Christine and David Heenan of Milford, grandchildren; Daniel, Jillian and Christopher Carr, Robert and Andrea Mahieu, Jessica Bifield and Jack Steinman, Valerie, Tiffany,  James and Nicholas Coleman and Tyler and Lauren Heenan and great-granddaughter, Daisy Bifield.   MaryAnn is predeceased by her brother Alfons J. Blatz and granddaughter, Melanie Amber Coleman.

Vaccaro, Mark

It is with deep sorrow in that we mourn the passing of Mark Anthony Vaccaro who passed away unexpectedly at his home on April 24, 2021. Born on January 10, 1960 in Peekskill, NY, he was the son of the late Anthony and Anita Vaccaro. Mark is survived by Diane, his beloved wife and best friend for over twenty years. They shared a relationship based on mutual support and a deep love for each other.

A lifelong resident of Milford, Mark began his career with UPS in 1996, was a member of Teamsters Local 191 and had just recently retired.

Mark was known for his quick wit and his kind and compassionate spirit. He possessed an uncanny ability to find happiness in his daily routine, was an avid sports fan and had an “outstanding” knowledge and passion for music. The simplest pleasures in life brought him great joy; his favorite chair, outdoor grilling, appreciation for a good meal, basking in the sun, and of course spending time with family and friends.

Along with his wife, Mark leaves behind his brother, Anthony Vaccaro, Jr. (Fran), several sister and brothers-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and beloved co-workers.

Wayne, James Palmer Sr.

James Palmer Wayne, Sr., 73, of Milford, beloved husband of 45 years to Ann Wayne, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on April 13, 2021. Born on May 31, 1947 in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Carl and Ethel Wayne. Jim was the proud president and owner of Wayne Tire for over 50 years. He was an extremely active member in the Milford community serving as a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Milford and board member of the Milford Red Cross as well as volunteering for various charity events. Jim enjoyed golfing and sailing which he often did on his many trips to Puerto Rico with his family and friends. Above all else, Jim always wore a smile on his face and was ready to help his family, fellow neighbors and friends. He was always doing something for someone. Jim was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and a faithful friend. His presence will be missed but never forgotten, especially his wonderful stories and his fabulous sense of humor. Along with his loving wife, Jim leaves behind his cherished children, Jacqueline Ann (Timothy) Maloney, James P. Wayne, Jr., and Nicole Wayne; grandchildren, Brendan Maloney, James P. Wayne, III, and Shannon Maloney; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Carol Bogaars. Whalen, Paul R.

Paul R. Whalen, 85, of Orange, beloved husband of the late Joan Whalen, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2021. Paul was born on December 26, 1935. He worked for several insurance companies over the years and frequently traveled for his job. Paul loved watching the NY Giants and taking trips with Joan to Cape Cod.

Paul leaves behind his son, Michael Whalen, Sr. and his wife Cynthia; daughter, Debra Whalen; grandsons, Michael Jr., and Justin Whalen; step-grandchildren, Amanda and Anthony Martin; brother, James Whalen and his wife Joyce; brother-in-law James Manifold; faithful dog, Moe; and Kevin and Frank Vann.
