“I just found out this morning, it came as a bit of a surprise,” Mohammad said. “I’ve been volunteering to help the town for a little while now.”

Mohammad’s work is primarily academic, with teaching positions at Yale and the VA Hospital in West Haven. Along with specialties in internal and preventative medicine, he holds a masters in public health.

Mohammad, who lives in Orange, said some of his interest and involvement so far has been a result of having children in the school system.

As he moves into the position, Mohammad intends to work with the town and the Orange Visiting Nurse Association to identify the top priorities and needs.

“We are very exited to have him. We’ve been working on [finding a replacement for Dr. Zelson] for awhile,” said OVNA Administrator Judy Benson. Zelson retired from the position with the town last May.
