Orange Residents Rally Around Displaced Family

Orange residents are rallying to help a family driven from their Hemlock Hill home on March 3 following a fire. There were no injuries but they have temporarily relocated to a family member’s home in West Haven.

“From what I understand, the Singletons’ neighbors are banding together and collecting gift cards to the family at some point tomorrow to get them going in the short term,” said Cindy Figuly in an email to The Orange Times. She and the Orange Community Women are attempting to help the family with gift card donations.

According to reports, the fire was likely accidental and possibly electrical in nature. The Hemlock Hill Road home suffered mainly heat and smoke damage but occupants must relocate for the time being.

A teenage son and a family pet were home at the time of the fire but escaped without injury.

“The PTO and PTSO communities of Turkey Hill School, Amity Middle School Orange, and Amity High School have been very sensitive and considerate to this family’s needs. We are very protective of this wonderful family and hopeful that they will resurrect from this devastating fire in due time. With the help of their extended family and dedicated friends, in time, they will be able to resume some sense of normalcy,” Figuly said in her email to The Orange Times.

Gift cards and personal donations are being collected by neighbors to help the Singletons in their immediate need. An account has also been opened at Webster Bank to help defray the costs of repairing the home. People can make donations via drop-off or mail to:
