SCSU President to Share Initiatives, Plans on Public Higher Education With Milford Rotary Oct. 26.

Southern Connecticut State University President Joe Bertolino, Ed. D., will be presenting to Milford Rotary Club at their lunch on Thursday, October 26th, at 12:15 pm at Gustos to speak about the challenges and opportunities facing public higher education in Connecticut and the rest of the country.

Bertolino, who has been a social justice educator for 25 years, is the 12th President of SCSU. His priorities are “raising the University’s profile, expanding community outreach and partnerships; strategic enrollment recruitment and retention; and streamlining students’ path to earning a degree.” Also an author and lecturer, he has presented hundreds of programs at over 600 colleges and conferences nationwide.

“President Joe,” as he is affectionately known, will be sharing with Milford Rotary Club new SCSU developments, including the opening of a state-of-the-art science building and the expansion of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics,) programs, new regional initiatives, and international partnerships.

New Haven-based Southern Connecticut State University is a public institute of higher learning, and was founded as a teachers’ college in 1893. Over 10,000 students are provided an education in the 114 graduate and undergraduate programs.

Milford Rotary Club, a local chapter of Rotary International, is a service organization whose members strive to live by the motto “Service Above Self.” They are committed to serving the local and global community to “build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world…” in addition to working to eradicate polio, and their annual Lobster Bake fundraiser has been called “the best party in Milford.” Meetings are held Thursdays at 12:15 at Gustos, 255 Boston Post Road Milford.
