Spartans Swim to Second at SCC Championships

Amity gained 2nd place title in SCC Championships and nine Spartan Swimmers qualified for the All SCC Team on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at Southern CT State University.

The Spartans received 1st place performances from A.J. Pite in the 200 I.M. and 100 Breaststroke and second-year winner Dylan Swanepoel in the 200 Free and the 500 Free, with each swimmer winning two events for Amity.

“We did a great job,” comments Coach Rainey. “We swam very well across the board.”

Regardless of Fairfield Prep’s overall victory Amity came to an impressive 2nd place.

With Xavier following in 3rd it was the Spartans Fairfield feared in stealing their 6th year titleship.

“Second place is quite an accomplishment,” states Rainey. “I am very proud of the team.”

Teammates Stephen Cheung, Brian Liang, Matt Cucurello and Jamie Huang in the 200 Medley Relay; Jake Laser, A.J. Pite, Charlie Pite and Sam Guerra in the  200 freestyle relay; Jake Laser, Charlie Pite, Dylan Swanepoel and A.J. Pite in the 400 freestyle relay, were all named in the SCC Team. Dylan Swanepoel was also named Swimmer of the Meet.

Impressive teamwork during Championships proves the Amity Boys look forward to swimming in the State Open Championship on Saturday, March 16 at Yale University.
