Aspden, Jane B.

Jane B. Aspden, age 88, of Milford, CT, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019 in Connecticut Hospice. She was the daughter of the late James B. and Beatrice Douglas Hyndman and was born on December 28, 1930 in Bridgeport. She graduated from Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing, as a registered nurse. She started her career as a nurse at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, CT and worked for many years before retiring from Milford Pediatric Group. A truly caring and dedicated person, she loved her patients and coworkers, especially Dr. Frank Gruskay. She enjoyed, loved and spoiled her dogs (Grady and Dickens). She loved trivia, word searches, reading, knitting, going on day trips, and the fulfillment of her dream trip to Scotland. Jane is survived by her devoted children Scott Emmons, Kimberly Emmons and Gretchen Parrella and her husband John, her grandchildren Christine Parrella, Laura Emmons and Nicole Emmons. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her 1st husband Harold E. Emmons (Bud) and 2nd husband Raymond Aspden (her high school sweetheart), son James Emmons and daughter Margaret Emmons. We want to thank the staff and nurses at CT Hospice for their loving, compassionate care for Mom in her last days. Viewing will be private. Baldwin, Nancy A. Agostini

It is with extreme sadness that the family of Nancy Angelina Agostini Baldwin, 89, of Orange, CT, announces her passing on July 31, 2019 after a long illness. Nancy was born on December 23, 1929, growing up in Allingtown, West Haven, CT, daughter of the late Fernanda (Fannie) and Angelo Agostini. Nancy is survived by her three daughters, Donna (Anthony) D’Amato, Dawn (Jim) DeRose and Francine (Richard) Tercyak. Our dear TT was cherished by her grandchildren, Toma (Jennifer) D’Amato, Reco (Stefanie) D’Amato, Richard Tercyak, Jr., Molly Tercyak and Sara DeRose, and four great-grandchildren, Victoria, Jake, Olivia and Sage D’Amato. Nancy was predeceased by her devoted husband Donald “Baldie” Baldwin and her brothers Lawrence and Ronald Agostini.

TT’s enjoyment was her family, and a true friend to all her Golden Girls. Earlier in her life, Nancy was involved in the West Haven Women’s Club. Nancy was known for her prize winning Sour Cream Cake, her delicious mac and cheese and pizza, and of course, her Betty Boop collection. Nancy loved going to the casino, and being with family. TT was a devoted wife, wonderful mother and caring grandmother. It is a sad time for all who knew Fancy Nancy. We will miss her daily phone calls, just checking in to make sure everyone was safe and sound. Nancy’s family would like to thank the Orange Visiting Nurse Association and all their kind staff who helped to give Nancy strength when she had her stroke. We would also like to deeply thank the staff of Branford Hills, Ledgewood 2, for taking care of our mom over the past year. Everyone was so kind, we can’t thank you enough for all the support and love shown to Mom, including coloring with her, playing her favorite music, Rod Stewart and just sitting with her praying. Mom is now comfortable and at peace. TT had such a wonderful, long life. There is now another empty chair at our table that will never be filled. Keep on Boopin TT.

Barretta, Marie A.

Marie A. Barretta, 76, of Orange, beloved wife of 57 years to Richard Barretta, passed away on July 23, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. Marie was born on December 18, 1942 in New Haven, daughter of the late Carmen and Carmel (Proto) Romano. Marie was a licensed beautician for many years before her retirement. Marie was a devoted Catholic and Eucharistic Minister at Holy Infant Church in Orange for 34 years. She was a devoted mother to her three wonderful sons, Richard (Lisa) Barretta Jr., David (Jennifer) Barretta, and Christopher (Jena) Barretta. The apples of her eye were her 10 beautiful, beloved grandchildren. They were the pride and joys of her life. Marie loved to cook and entertain and was loved by everyone she met. Her door was always open for everyone. Besides her husband, sons, and grandchildren, Marie leaves behind her loving sister, Janet (Bruce) Devlin of North Haven. She also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She will be greatly missed by everyone. She was predeceased by her sisters, Lucy Romano, Patricia Pucillo, Anna Pereira, and her two brothers Ralph and Anthony Capasso.

The hours for visitation will take place Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the West Haven Funeral Home at the green. Caccavale, Gene

Gene “Gino” Caccavale, age 75, of Orange, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 5, 2019 at the West Haven Veteran’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Gino was the beloved husband of 54 years to Geri (Gamble) Caccavale. He was born in New Haven on September 19, 1943 to the late Gene and Mary (Tomaso) Caccavale. He served his country faithfully in the US Navy. Gino is survived by his sister Rosemarie (George) Cramp and brother Richard. Father to sons, Gino (Catherine) Caccavale, Jr., Nick (Shelley) Caccavale and daughter Carla (Chris) Trutnau. Grandfather to Christian and Giavanna Caccavale and step-granddaughters Caitlin and Kara Trutnau. Gino enjoyed hunting and spending time at his cabin in Vermont (especially with his grandson). He was an avid NASCAR and New York Yankees fan and cherished the lifetime friendships he had with his “buddies” at the Allingtown Sportsmans Club. Gino was a roofer all his life until his passing on July 5th. He loved spending time with his family and will be missed and loved by all who knew him.

Collins, Jean F.

Jean F. Savage Collins, age 84, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Edward J. Collins, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2019. Born and raised in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Stanley and Frances Roy Savage, Jean was a Milford Town resident for most of her life. Jean enjoyed gardening, baking and more than anything loved caring for her family and home. A loving mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed. Jean is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Kaminski and her husband Steve of Milford and Patricia Savo of Shelton, her grandchildren Brian Kaminski and his wife Corrina, Andrew Kaminski and Cara Kaminski and Kevin, Eric and Marc Savo. She leaves behind her sister in law Barbara Savage of Huntington and brother in law Robert Clark, formerly of Milford as well as many nieces and nephews. Cooper, Henry G.

Henry G. Cooper, age 88, of Milford, beloved husband of the late Sally Gentile Cooper, died on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Henry was born in Brooklyn on September 10, 1930 to the late George and Mamie Abramshe Cockefur. He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran and worked for Schick Safety Razor as an electrician in Milford for many years. Survivors include his children: Michael Cooper (Dawn) of Milford, Michele Cooper (Eric) of Ansonia, Susan C. Busk of Ansonia and Mary Cooper of West Haven, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Henry was predeceased by his son, George H. Cooper.

Costa, Ernest D.

Ernest “Ernie” D. Costa, age 84 of Milford, passed away July 18, 2019 at his home with his “Dolly” by his side. Ernie was brought up in foster care until he was 11 years old. He then went to live with his father and stepmother, Rose, and after getting out of high school, he joined the Army and later was in the Army Reserves. He moved to Upstate New York and married and had his two daughters Debbie and Susie and he was always a hard worker working at least two jobs. He built the houses that they lived in and the last one he built was in Nyack, New York where he raised his daughters. He later moved to Connecticut where he met Barbara Noble, his “Dolly” and they have been together for 32 years. Ernie was a great cook and had a passion for cooking, especially his Salisbury Steak. His hobbies were flying, and restoring antique cars, especially his two 1935 Fords. He used to take his “Buddy” Charlie to Burger King for lunch. Ernie found Jesus Christ and he is now at peace in heaven. He always thanked Pastor Ron Canelli for his help in finding Jesus Christ. Besides his “Dolly”, he is survived by his daughters Debra Lask (Gregory), and Susan Charamut (Joseph), his grandchildren Alyssa Holland (Bronson), Natalie and Justin Charamut, Gregory, Stephen, Rebacca, and Alestra Lask, his great grandchildren Harper Smith, Tanner, Isaac, Portia, and Adelyn Lask, his brother Anthony Costa (Susan), his sister Rita Torricilla, his niece, and his nephews. He was also survived by Barbara’s children, Ann Marie Horton, and John Andrasko, Barbara’s grandchildren, Elizabeth Ramirez (Luis), and Tina Arango (David), Barbara’s great grandchildren Toni and Emily Pruitt, Bella and Luis Ramirez, Jr., and Julian Arango. He was predeceased by his parents Antonio and Lucarda Cabera Costa, his stepmother Rose Costa, and his brother Albert Costa. The family wishes to express their many thanks to the nurses and nurse’s aide from Constellation Hospice for their compassionate and loving care. Dawlagala, Seelawathi Anula

With heavy hearts, at the age of 96, we announce the death of Seelawathi Anula Dawlagala (Orange, Connecticut), who passed away on July 21, 2019. DePonte, Fred

Fortunato “Fred” DePonte, 86, of Orange, beloved husband of the late Marie DePonte, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2019. Fred was born on January 22, 1933, in New Haven, CT to the late Luigi and Mary DePonte.

Fred graduated from Notre Dame as valedictorian and went on to graduate from Yale. He worked as an electrical engineer at Sikorsky and Pitney Bowes, from where he retired. He was an active parishioner at Holy Infant Church and enjoyed taking walks around his neighborhood. Fred loved his family and enjoyed every moment spent with them. Fred’s family would like to thank the staff at CT Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
Fred leaves behind his daughters, Cynthia Varrone (Jay), Diane DiMauro (Dennis) and Catherine DePonte; grandchildren, Melissa Varrone, Jessica Varrone DiTroia (Jennifer), Matthew Varrone and Danielle DiMauro; and great-grandson, Gianni Fortunato DiTroia. He was predeceased by his siblings, Madeline Neclerio, Anne Criscuolo, Rose Lombardozzi and Frank DePonte.

Sebastiano “Benny” Faustini, age 54, of Orange, beloved husband of Antoinette Faustini, passed away on August 1, 2019 in his home. He was born on July 17, 1965 in Milford to Livio Faustini and the late Annunziata Faustini.

Flickinger, Kenneth J.

Kenneth “Kenny” Flickinger, age 75, passed away in Connecticut Hospice, Branford on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Kenny was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 28, 1943. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967 and lived most of his life in Brooklyn and Queens, NY. After retiring from Con Edison, where he worked for 40 years, he relocated to Milford, CT. Kenny was an avid reader and a runner who enjoyed tai chi and fishing. Most of all, he loved family gatherings with his three children, Lee Ann Murphy, Christina Bambino and Ken Flickinger, their spouses, Michael, Christopher and Rachel, and his 7 grandchildren, Brenna, Matthew, Jacob, Ian, Declan, Ryan and Sophie. He is also survived by his sister Carolyn Burke, brother Peter Flickinger, ex-wife and good friend Ann Flickinger and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Carl Flickinger.

All funeral services will be private, however, a memorial luncheon to celebrate Kenny’s life will be planned for a later date. John A. Frey, 98, of North Branford, formerly of Orange, beloved husband of the late Mildred Frey, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 13, 2019. Born on December 21, 1920 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late John E. and Effie Frey.

Gallipoli, Helen

Helen “Bebe” (Anderson) Gallipoli, age 86, of Milford died on July 15, 2019, surrounded by the comfort and love of her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank J. Gallipoli. Born in West Haven, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Olive Levere Anderson. She attended school in West Haven and worked at Bic Corporation for more than 30 years as an inspector.

She belonged to Company #6’s Volunteer Fireman’s Woman’s Guild back-in-the-day and helped to organize many balls, picnics and activities for the club. She was interested in word games like old-school Boggle and high-tech Wordscapes. Even as she lay in the hospital, she found a 6-letter word! She was a wiz at jigsaw puzzles and always had one on her kitchen table to build. She found joy and had a great respect for animals – especially the neighborhood stray cats. She truly loved to garden, and with her green thumb, fragments of a plants received new lives from Bebe over the years. Her favorite worldly delight besides her family, was the saltwater of Long Island Sound. Whether she was swimming there or watching it from her picture window, her love for the beach was woven into the fabric of her being. Her thoughtfulness, kindness and caring ways will be missed.

She is survived by her 4 children Darleen Hood, Frank Jr. (Susan), Michael, and Gary (Patty) Gallipoli. She had 4 grandchildren Marshall (Stephenie), and Joseph (Tracie) Hood, Frank III (Sarah) and Troy Gallipoli. She had 4 great-grandchildren Domenic Hood, Scarlette Sauro, Isabella and Frank Gallipoli. She is also survived by her 4 siblings Linda Martin, Bruce and David Anderson and Mary (John) Mordovanec. She was predeceased by her wonderful son-in-law Marshall Hood and her cherished siblings Beverly Thorndike, Dorothy Davidson, Herbie and Raymond “Billy” Anderson and Charlotte “Dolly” Gallipoli. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, stepchildren, step-grandchildren and amazing neighbors of the South-Street-Beach area.

There will be no viewing or visitation hours. The graveside service will be private and will be held at a future date at the Kings Highway Cemetery. Family and friends who wish to remember Bebe, may do a jigsaw puzzle or plant a flower to pay tribute to her.
“We love you Mom!”, “We love you Gramma Bebe!” and as she would always reply, “I love you more!”

Gaudreau, Dorothy C.

Dorothy C. Gaudreau, 99, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Emile J. Gaudreau, Jr., passed away peacefully at home on July 3, 2019. Dorothy was born in Fall River, MA on December 14, 1919 to Isaac and Jane Cook Glew.

Dorothy was raised in Fall River with her two sisters and three brothers. She met and married Emile in Fall River and had two children. After the war, they moved to Milford where they had their third child. She loved gardening, crocheting and word circle books. Dorothy’s family would like to thank Dr. Brunson, Dr. Oestrich, Milford Hospital, Memorial 3 West, Connecticut Hospice Care and the neighbors who came into our mother’s life.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Elaine Selling of Derby and Joanne Caraglio of Milford; grandchildren, Dawnmarie (Dennis) Hunter of Seymour, Christopher (Karen) Selling of Shelton, Peter (Autumn) Caraglio of Derby and Tom Caraglio, Jr. of New Hampshire; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Pauline Benevides of Fall River, MA; and brother-in-law, John (Kay) Gaudreau of Philadelphia, PA. In addition to her husband, Dorothy was predeceased by her son, Emile “Pete” Gaudreau III; sisters, Lillian Cushing and Grace Holub; brothers, John, Joseph and James Cook; and sons-in-law, Frank Selling and Thomas Caraglio, Sr.

Grant, Esther P.

Esther P. Grant, 89, of Milford, beloved wife of the late William Henry Grant, Jr., passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 18, 2019. Esther was born on December 25, 1929 in Milford to the late Antonio and Esther Swiderski.

Esther and her husband, Bill, owned and operated the Redwood Inn in Shelton and Malarkey’s Pub in Ansonia. They loved to travel and considered Aruba their home away from home and one of their favorite destinations. Esther enjoyed crocheting and knitting hats and scarves for her family and friends. She loved to sing and would begin sing-a-longs with anyone who would join her. They were members of the West Haven Elks Club.

Esther leaves behind her children, Karen Eichner, Chad (Cathy Gorman) Rose, Nancy Rose, Judy (Ken Dotson) Rose and Kyle (Donald) Simpson; stepchildren, Ronald (Irene) Grant, Sr., David (Gail) Grant and Maryellen Marsili; grandchildren, John (Toni) Daigle, Kimberly (Mike) Schoendorf, Keith Rose, Melissa (Clint) Rose Evans, Corey Rose, Christopher Fazzino, Dawn Garlick, Candice (Larry) Smith, Myles Carlton Garlick, Travis Garlick, Madison Katinger, Shelley Grant, Jennifer Grant, Ronald (Jadeanne) Grant, Jr. David James Grant, Michael Grant, Michael Marsili and Kristen Marsili; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Grignano, Maria S.

Maria (Marie) S. Grignano, 97, of Orange, passed away on Friday, June 21, at St. Raphael’s Hospital. Marie was born in Hamden, Sept. 25, 1921, daughter of the late Gennaro and Angelina Palmieri She was the widow of Generoso J. Grignano and the mother of Domenic Grignano of Orange. She was pre-deceased by her siblings,Yolanda Baraglia, Frank and Luigi Palmieri. Marie worked at Sargent before retiring to a full life of friends, family and enjoyment. Her interests included bowling, playing cards, bingo, attending West Haven Senior Center, crocheting and making trips to the casino. She was an exceptional cook who entertained often. While all these activities kept her active and content. Her love for the theater was one of her greatest joys. Marie was an elegant lady, fashionable and exceedingly stylish, who attended many Broadway shows. As an exceptionally devoted mother to her only child, Domenic, she offered indispensable help to him during the times he led New Haven Performing Arts Theatre and Dance Theatre Productions in New Haven. Hundreds of children remember her for being not only a talented costume maker but also a tireless supporter of theatrical performances. In addition to her devoted son, she is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Heckler, William J.

William Joseph Heckler, age 97, of Milford, died on Friday, July 19, 2019. William was born in Bridgeport on March 14, 1922 to the late Julius Heckler and Helen (Liskowsky) Anthony. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Irene (Mullins) Heckler, and his devoted children, Robert Heckler (Margaret) of Stratford, and Janice Dowin (Richard) of Milford, his grandson, Brian Heckler of TX, and sister, Kathryn Allen of Branford. He was predeceased by his stepfather William Anthony, Sr., and his brothers: Joseph Heckler, William Anthony, Jr. and Bernard Anthony.

Hermanns, Joshua

Joshua Landon Hermanns, 25, of Bridgeport, passed away unexpectedly on July 22, 2019. He was born on March 23, 1994 in Bridgeport, CT to Robert C. and Amy E. (Darwick) Hermanns, Jr.

Joshua was a bright light in this world that was dimmed before its time. His contagious smile was his trademark -when we think of Josh, we see his smiling face.

Josh graduated from Central Magnet High School with the Class of 2012. Bridgeport Pop Warner was a big part of Josh’s youth…especially the time when his team went to play in the Pop Warner SuperBowl at Disney in 2005. Joshua also worked on a clam boat year-round for several years and often said seeing the daily sunrise over The LI Sound was well worth the extreme conditions he endured. Most recently, Josh worked at the Brick Walk Tavern in Fairfield under Chef David. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his loving parents, Josh is survived by his siblings, Robert C. (Kristin) Hermanns, III, and Rachel McKenzie Hermanns; his niece, Ava Grace; his grandparents, Robert S. Norman E. Hurwitz, 86, of Orange, passed away on July 29. He was the devoted husband of Heidi S.Hurwitz for 56 years. Norman was born on December 15,1932 in New Haven and was the son of the late Max and Sophie Hurwitz and brother of the late Thelma (Hurwitz) Muffs and Dr. Sidney Hurwitz. Jaensch, Henry H.

Henry H. Jaensch, age 93, of Milford passed away, in his home, on Saturday, July 6, 2019. He was born on April 25, 1926 in New York City to the late Heinrich and Kate Baumbach Jaensch. He moved to Germany as a young boy and began his metal spinning apprenticeship at the age of 13 and was drafted into the German Army at the age of 17. He came back to the United States in 1949 and served in the United States Army in both the United States and Germany as a German translator. He began working for Maurer Metalcraft as a metal spinner in 1953 and continued to work with that company for over 62 years, retiring at the age of 89. He loved working in his yard and telling his life stories but he was happiest when he was either at work or spending time with his wife of 62 years Anneliese Behrens Jaensch whom he married in 1957. Besides his wife, he is survived by brother Hans Jaensch of Vermont, and sister Waltraut Vosverg of Germany, his sister-in-law Alfreda, his nieces and nephews Diana, Kathy, Christa, Brigitte, and Wolfgang, and many great-nieces and nephews and friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Margaret, nephew Herman, and 4 brothers-in-law. Roger Edward Johns Sr, Age 83, of Milford, CT died peacefully at The CT Hospice on July 6, 2019. Beloved husband of 61 yrs to Dorothy “Dottie” nee Worrell. Ruth Anne Johnson, age 76 of Orange, passed away July 30, 2019 at Bridgeport Hospital. Ruth was born in Sparta, MI, December 21, 1942, daughter of the late Milton B. Walton and Flora Rogers Walton. Ruth was a professor at the University of New Haven for several years until her retirement. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Milford where she was a children’s director and a participant in various church activities. She is survived by her son Eric D. Magdalene (Madie) Lane, 94, of Milford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 3, 2019. Born July 22, 1924 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Marie Eismont and resided in Milford since 1955. During her career, she worked for the war department in New York City, as a bookkeeper for many businesses, including Milford Jai Alai, from its opening to closing day. After retiring, she continued to enjoy knitting, sewing, pottery and her family while living in Milford, CT, West Palm, FL and Simsbury, CT. Madie was predeceased by her husband, the late Harry Lane, and her brother Bill Eismont, and survived by her sister Caroline Christarella and by Madie’s four children, Carl Lopez, Andrea Whitaker, Pamela Lupia, and Elena Folsom and their spouses as well as nine grandchildren Max Lopez, Ross Whittaker, Joseph Whitaker, Mary Whitaker, Ryan Lupia, Christopher Lupia, Teresa McClure, Sarah Folsom and Laura Folsom and 2 great-grandchildren, Harper and Nolan Lupia. Madie’s family is very grateful for the wonderful, compassionate care provided by Michele Philips and Jeanette Fitzpatrick during the past many years.

Christine Callens Lewis, 63, of Orange, CT, departed this life on July 18, 2019. She was the wife of Ronald J. Lewis. Mrs. Lewis was born in Selma, AL on February 12, 1956, a daughter of Claborne Callens and the late Daisy Callens. She was a member of Mount Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and a retired Preschool Teacher with the New Haven Board of Education. Mary Ann Lumpinski, 86, of Milford, CT, beloved wife of the late Alexander Lumpinski, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2019. Mary Ann was born on October 22, 1932 in Bridgeport, CT; daughter of the late Stephen and Anna (Huzvar) Zdravecky.

A graduate of Harding High School in 1950, she married Alexander in 1953 and moved to Milford in 1958. Mary Ann was a devout Catholic who was devoted to her husband and family. She was active in the PTO and worked at Calf Pen Meadow School for many years. She loved family get-togethers, swimming, reading, travel, bingo, Disney and the Yankees.

She leaves behind seven loving children: Debra Richardson and husband Glen, Magda Gill and husband Harry, Andrea Corriveau, Kathy Lumpinski, Michael Lumpinski and wife Ann Marie, Teresa Roberts and husband Joe, Stephen Lumpinski and wife Kristine; nine grandchildren: Adam (Kristin) & Alexander (Allison), Lauren (Dave) & Jacqueline (Eric), Matthew, Zachary (Karla) & Shelby, Evan & John, Jack & Mark; and eight great grandchildren: Caroline & Grace, Micah & Jonah, Derek & Kirsten, Alexandria & Ryan. Anna Annunziata Vece Malangone, age 79, of Milford, formerly of West Haven, passed away on July 29, 2019. She was the beloved wife of the late Alessandro Malangone. She was born in Acerno, Salerno, Italy, daughter of the late Antonio and MariaAntonia Sansone Vece. In 1973 Anna and Alessandro, with their young family, immigrated to New Haven. Anna is survived by her children, Mario (Dana) Malangone, Lucia (Frank) Contento, Giovanna (Jeff) Payne, Sandra (Louis) Cavaliere, Monica (Carmen) Romano, Laura (Chris Cannon) Malangone, Graziana (Joe) Romano and Anna Durante, 19 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Her sisters, Gerardina, Elvira and Carmela Vece, who reside in Italy. She was predeceased by her brother Mario Vece. Anna loved spending time at the casino and enjoying a nice meal at her favorite restaurants. She could always be found in her kitchen or her garden, but she mostly loved spending time with her family.

Patricia A. Marenna, age 72, of Orange passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on July 23, 2019. She was the loving wife of George Marenna Jr. Patricia was born in New Haven, daughter of the late Daniel Sr. and Anne Iannucci Vece. She is also survived by her daughter Anne Marenna and her husband Paul Dechio, her son George Marenna III all of Orange and her grandson, Mason Dechio. She was instrumental in the growth and the development of the business.

Martino, Sr., Kenneth

Kenneth F. Martino, Sr., 88, of Orange, beloved husband of the late Janet (Maloney) Martino, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2019. Born on April 20, 1931 in Woodbridge CT, he was the son of the late Francis and Annetinette Martino. Ken graduated from Yale University in 1953 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the US Army for 38 years (Active/Reserve) achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Ken worked at Textron Lycoming for 42 years in research and development for gas turbine engines. In his spare time, he volunteered for the Orange Babe Ruth, was a member of the American Legion Post 127, became president of the Orange Little League, and was involved with the youth football and hockey programs. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Ken is survived by his sons, Kenneth F. Kevin M. Mingrone, age 63, of Fort Lauderdale, FL and previously of Milford, died on Friday, June 7, 2019. Mr. Mingrone was born in Bridgeport on August 29, 1955, to the late Frank and Eleanor Mingrone and resided in Milford for 22 years prior to moving to Los Angeles, CA for 4 years, and finally moving to Florida for the last 27 years. He was a devoted family member and friend who enjoyed helping others in need. He loved animals, his garden, and spending time with his niece and nephews. Survivors include four brothers, Frank V. Mingrone II (Deborah) of Milford, Paul F. Mingrone (Janette) of Stratford, Gene F. Mingrone (Mary Beth) of Milford, and Thomas F. Mingrone of Austin, TX; one niece, Chelsea L. Mizzone, Michael Paul

Michael Paul Mizzone, age 57, of Orange passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2019 in his home. He was born on January 4, 1962 in Bridgeport to the late Pasquale and Vivian Hoja Mizzone. He was employed as a Union Representative. An active member of the community, he was a Master Mason 32nd Degree and a member of the Scottish Rite of Ansantawae Lodge #89 in Milford. He also belonged to the Carpenter Union Local #210, B.P.O.E. of Wallingford Lodge #1365, Sons of the America Legion Post #196 of Milford, a football coach in West Haven, Milford, and Amity while coaching all four of his sons in Pop Warner Football and helped coach his daughter’s Softball team in Little League. He was the proud recipient of the Carnegie Medal from the Chief of the Fire Department in Orange for rescuing a neighbor. Mooney, Mildred P.

Mildred Pinto Mooney, 86, of Orange, beloved wife of James P. Mooney MD, passed away peacefully at home on July 23, 2019. Born on August 2, 1932 at Griffin Hospital, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Emma Saldamarco Pinto.

Mil grew up in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport. She had attended St. Ann school in Bridgeport and later Lauralton Hall in Milford. Mil received her associate’s degree in Dental Hygiene at Fones School University of Bridgeport. She was active in all sports including softball, tennis, and field hockey. Music was her forte at Lauralton. She sang the lead at several operettas and the Hallelujah Chorus of Handel’s Messiah with the combined choruses of Fairfield prep and Belltelephone, as well as many weddings. She was honored by Lauralton with their Claven Award. Mil met her husband to be on her 17th birthday. They were married for 64 years.

Her dental hygiene career included setting up a dental clinic at Varca in Derby with retired navy equipment. Mil took on the full time job of wife and mother which she excelled at. She loved her family fiercely. At the age of forty, she began playing golf and enjoyed playing at the Racebrook Country Club. Despite her late start, she was the ladies club champion and also had 4 holes-in-one. Mil frequently accompanied her husband on European business trips as well as vacations. Most of all she enjoyed her family and friends, and as someone said, she never met a stranger.

Special thanks to Dr. Joseph Balsamo, his secretary Melissa, and the staff at the West Haven Medical Group. The Seasons Hospice Group provided compassionate and loving care at home.

Along with her loving husband, Mil is survived by her son, James P. (Laura) Mooney; daughter, Mildred M. McGrath; and grandchildren, Laura A. Mooney, Kayte Mooney, James Mooney IV, and Mildred M.J. McGrath. She was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Anne Mooney.

Stott, Wilma Moore

Wilma Moore Stott, 97, of Milford, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2019. Wilma was born on September 4, 1921 in St. Johnsbury, VT to the late George and Hazel Ranney.

Wilma was a volunteer at Milford Hospital and was an active member of Woodmont United Church of Christ Congregational. Wilma had a zest for life that was infectious to anyone in her presence. Her one of a kind hugs lingered just long enough to make you feel like the most special and loved person in the world. Each of her family members have a special blanket that she crocheted for birthday milestones and life accomplishments. Wilma’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Vitas Hospice and especially to her large group of friends who provided love and support to Wilma throughout these years.

Moscato, Magdalena “Taraskevich”

Magdalena “Taraskevich” Moscato, 89, of Orange passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on July 18, 2019. She was born in Ansonia on January 21, 1930 to the late Peter and Margaret Taraskevich, and was one of five children that they raised in Orange. Beloved wife of the late Angelo Moscato Sr., sister to the late Mrs Beatrice Misiewicz, Dorothy Taraskevich, Peter Taraskevich, and Joseph Taraskevich. She is survived by her loving son Angelo Moscato Jr., daughter-in-law Annie Moscato, daughter Linda Kinkade, son-in-law Ian Kinkade, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews whom she all adored.

Magdalena was a longtime resident of both Orange and West Haven, who’s heart and home was always open, and she dedicated her life to helping and caring for others, and was affectionately know to so many as “Gram.”

Murphy, Edward S.

Edward S. “Murph” Murphy, of Milford passed away peacefully July 21, 2019 in Connecticut Hospice. Born in Worcester, MA on October 8, 1929 son of the late J. Harold and Edith Smith Murphy, Edward was a proud US Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He later worked as a rigger for Milford Building Movers. A resident of Milford since 1936, Edward was to date the longest serving volunteer firefighter for Woodmont Company 5 where he served as Captain for many years. In 1963, Edward was appointed Fire Commissioner for the City of Milford by then Mayor Alan Jepson and served for 8 years. “Murph” adored his family and is survived by his wife Ann Salerno Murphy, three children Diane (Carl) Ahlemeyer, Lynne Gilmore, and Edward J. Murphy, and his beloved granddaughter Alissa Ahlemeyer. He also leaves many loving nieces and nephews from coast to coast. Predeceased by sisters Marjorie Staley and Ruth Colwell. Edward’s family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff of Smilow Cancer Center at Griffin Hospital for the compassionate care they provided.

Murray, Virginia Lee

Virginia Lee Murray, age 67, of Orange, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 in her home with her loving family beside her. She was born on December 1, 1947, in New Haven, to the late George and Virginia Stevens Phillips. She was employed as a Nursing Supervisor at Milford Hospital for 43 years. An active member of the community, she was the 2nd District President and the Unit #196 President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion. A devoted and loving wife and mother, she is survived by her husband, Robert Scott Murray, daughter, Dina Doheny and her husband, Daniel, granddaughter, Rylee Doheny, all of Milford, and sister, Georgia Langley and her husband, Edward of Ogdensburg, NY. Pannebaker, Winnifred

Winnifred Dahlgard Pannebaker, born Oct. 6, 1924, died July 6, 2019 at the Ct Hospice in Branford, CT. She was a resident of Milford. Born in West Haven, CT, she attended West haven High School. She was an X ray technician at the former Grace New Haven Hospital. She was a member of the Milford Camera Club and the Red Hat Club. Her survivors are her sisters, Lois Bailey of NC, and June Liverance of Colorado, plus several nieces and nephews. She is buried in Beaverdale Cemetery next to her husband William Pannebaker. A memorial service is to be determined.

Povinelli, Lynn A.

Lynn Ann Povinelli, age 51, of Milford, passed away on July 23, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Lynn was born in Milford on December 7, 1967 to Henry (Hank) Povinelli and the late Nancy Frank Povinelli. Lynn was a lifelong resident of Milford and graduated from Jonathan Law High School. She was a New York Yankee fan and adored her dog Ruby. She will be dearly missed by her many friends and family. Survivors include her children: David Rua of Milford and Matthew Benson of Bridgeport, step-sisters; Kari Smith (Jerry) of MS and Susan Diamantis (George) of Milford, uncle, Raymond Povinelli of Milford and aunt, Sandra Grevey (Kevin) of VA and several nieces and nephews. Lynn was predeceased by her sister, Laurie Ann Povinelli and step-mother, Karen Hansen Povinelli. The family would like to thank the staff at Vitas Hospice for the care and support they showed Lynn. Puvogel, Loraine Marie

Loraine Marie Puvogel, age 71, of Milford, CT, beloved wife of James Puvogel and sister of George Casazza, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on July 19, 2019. Born on December 6, 1947 in the Bronx, NY, she was the mother of Justin, Patrick and Meghan Puvogel.

Loraine worked as a nurse for 50 years, starting in Manhattan and working up to head nurse at Jacoby Medical Center until she moved to Milford, CT, where she worked at Milford Hospital for the next 42 years until she retired. When she wasn’t working Loraine loved to spend time with her 3 grandchildren, Sailor, Jack and Paisley. She also enjoyed traveling to tropical destinations, her yearly trips to Montauk and spending summers at the Milford Yacht Club.

In Milford Hospital, June 24, 2003, Florence M. Roberts, 104, of 336 Drummond Rd., Orange. Miss Roberts was born in New Haven, May 14, 1899, daughter of the late Charles & Belle Pearl Roberts. She was a School teacher for the West Haven Board of Education. Miss Roberts began her teaching career in 1922 at the former State Street School, Hamden until 1925. She then taught at the Clarence Thompson School in West Haven until 1963. She was a graduate of Bradford College, Bradford, MA and a member of the First Congregnational Church, West Haven, the Eve Lear Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, the New Haven Colony of New England Women and a member of the Kalmathean Club. She was predeceased by a sister, Pearl Roberts Gates and a brother, Russell C. Roberts. Roessle, Alba E.

Alba Elizabeth Roessle, 82, a lifelong resident of Milford, passed away on July 17, 2019. Alba was born on July 3, 1937 in Milford to the late Omar and Lena Roessle.

Alba worked at Dresser Industries as a Pricing Coordinator for over 25 years and was a member of their Retirees Club. She found great fulfillment in the 50 years she spent as a volunteer at Milford Hospital. Alba also greatly enjoyed traveling and craftwork.

Alba is survived by members of the Roessle, Zwiebel and Lisman families in the U.S. and Germany. She also leaves behind her large circle of loving, caring and devoted friends who will miss her dearly.

Rogers II, Frank “Clark” Woodruff

Frank “Clark” Woodruff Rogers II of Orange was born on August 4th, 1979 to Nancy Colburn Rogers and Frank Woodruff Rogers. “Handsome Dan” attended Cheshire Academy and graduated from Amity Senior High School. Clark was a direct descendent of the Deputy Governor, Robert Treat, of the Colony of Connecticut. Clark earned a Master Mason rank with Trumbull Lodge #22 in New Haven. Aside from being a fantastic dancer, Clark enjoyed being a NASA test pilot, Lion tamer, Mount Everest Sherpa, and Roadie for Metallica, “Speed of Sound Tour”. He loved cheesy movies, doing laundry, playing tennis & badminton, clamming, bike riding, beach combing, golfing, and most especially sun bathing. He thoroughly enjoyed being a master card shark! He was a music connoisseur, his favorites being Creedance Clearwater Revival and The Rolling Stones, an avid reader and vocabulary King, and a talented chef. His beautiful detailed landscapes have been seen all over New Haven County. He leaves behind his loving family, Sisters: Ellen Rogers Roy, Rebecca Rogers, and Elizabeth Rogers Gardner. Brothers: Brian Daddona, Jonathan Roy, and Adam Gardner. Nephew Jaxon Joseph Woodruff Rogers Roy. Uncle Clark proudly boasted about his nephew. Loving Parents: Frank and Doting mother Nancy Rogers. Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins spent precious time at the beach with him. Longtime, loving friend and companion, Carole Anderson. Childhood friend Timothy Butler and many others. Rushworth, Leslie E.

Leslie E. Rushworth, age 80, of Bethany, formerly of Milford, beloved husband of the late Jean Rushworth, died on Monday, July 15, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.  Les was born in Bridgeport on October 7, 1938 to the late Fred and Mildred Rushworth.  Les was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran serving on the USS Independence and the USS Intrepid.  He worked for various trucking firms, starting as a driver and retiring as a regional manager.  Les was the owner of both the East Side Deli in Naugatuck and the Amity Superette.  He was a member of the Bridgeport, New Haven and Waterbury Traffic Associations and President of the Terminal Managers Council of Connecticut.   Les was a baseball coach in Milford for many years and retired from Honda of Watertown as a shuttle driver.

He was a devoted father of sons, Jeffrey L. of Waterbury and Leslie P. (Diana Serrini) of Bethany.  He is also survived by his much loved grandchildren; Kara, Adam (fiancée, Monica) and Alex, Allison, Christian, and Michael W., daughter-in-law’s; Karen and Cindy, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.  Les is predeceased by his brothers; Fred, Robert, Roger and sister, Irene.  Les was most proud of his marriage to his wife Jean for over 53 years.

Scanzillo, Thomas G.

Thomas G. Scanzillo, age 87 of Milford, beloved husband of Geraldine Dennis Scanzillo, passed away peacefully at Bridgeport Hospital-Milford Campus on July 31st, 2019 with his family by his side. Born on December 7, 1931 in Bayonne, NJ, he was the son of the late Thomas and Florence Scanzillo. Thomas served his nation with pride in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon returning from the service, he owned and operated the Fairfield Driving School and had worked as an insurance agent for many years prior to his retirement. A devoted New York Yankees fan, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching games with them. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be truly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife Geri of 60 years, he is survived by his children, Susan Scanzillo and her husband Paul Leonard of Sun City Center, FL, Bonnie Kellogg and her husband Todd of Trumbull, Thomas Scanzillo and his wife June, and his three cherished grandchildren, Ben, Sam, and Serena, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Elizabeth “Betty” Joan Vaicekauskas, 90, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Albert Vaicekauskas, passed away peacefully at home on July 24, 2019. She was born on November 2, 1928 in Scranton, PA to the late Joseph and Mary (Dougela) Lennick.

Elizabeth was a member of the Milford Police Wives Auxiliary and a member of the Milford Senior Center. She was also an avid crafter; her creations, such as quilts and raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, have been sold and loved by many people across the country. She will be greatly missed.

Elizabeth is survived by her children, Susan, Nancy, Albert, Jr., and Paul Vaicekauskas; her grand-cats, Nicholas and Tiffany; her sisters, Constance Weisel and Beatrice Monopoli; her sister-in-law, Bernadette (Amos) Julian; and many nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was predeceased by seven of her siblings. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Janet Falcon and Inajah Robinson for their excellent care and compassion shown to the entire family.

Robert Dewitt Vosburgh, Jr. was born on September 1, 1965 in White Plains, NY. He passed away on July 15, 2019 in his home in Milford, CT. Bob is survived by his loving spouse, Kai and his beloved siblings and their partners, Jonathan, Charles and Ann Marie, Lisa and Alex, Donna and Omar, and his four-legged baby, Daisy. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Judith Vosburgh.

Bob received his BA from NYU and achieved a successful career as a respected journalist and editor. An avid reader and history enthusiast, he conveyed his ideas with creative genius and wit. His storytelling talent was a treat to the eyes and ears. His warmth and kindness were humbly evident behind an impeccably groomed soul. Bob loved being with his family and friends. He loved traveling, the ocean and golf. Where words were not spoken, his embrace told the story of his heart.

Way, Harry H.

Harry Homer Way, 85, passed away peacefully at home on July 25, 2019, with his loving famiy by his side. Harry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lottie; sister Janet Olex; brother David Way, and nephews Bill Olex and Raymond Bragano, Jr. Harry honorably served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He and Lottie enjoyed working their cookie route for many years, and later owned Way’s Variety and News for 14 years. Harry was an easy going guy and an avid New York Mets fan. Harry was predeceased by his twin boys, Kyle and Kirk, and his sisters, Marilyn Bragano and Grace James. There will be no calling hours. Whelan, Robert J. Jr.

Robert J. Whelan Jr., eldest son of Robert and Donna Risley Whelan, died Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at the age of 62. Bob was a beloved parent to Mary Claire and José Whelan, along with their mother, Teresa Suganski. He was a wonderful brother to Mary Ruth Whelan, Katie Williams Cooper, and Tom Whelan (who passed away in 2005), and a mentor to many in his community. Zold, Frank K.

Frank K. Zold, age 78 of Orange, beloved husband of 48 years to Shelby Austin Zold, passed away July 29, 2019 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Frank was born in Bridgeport, July 2, 1941, son of the late Kalman and Elizabeth Malinovsky Zold. Frank was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School of Bridgeport Class of 1959, attended Fairfield University, and was a veteran of the 475th Engineer Company, U.S. Army. He worked as a customer engineer for IBM for 37 years until his retirement. He was a former Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts Troop 54 of Bridgeport and later an assistant leader for Troop 921 of Orange. He was a member of the Ansonia Rod and Gun Club and the Connecticut Historical Automobile Society. He was an avid deer hunter, trap shooter, and a fine mechanic who could fix anything. He was always willing to help his fellow neighbors and friends in their time of need. In addition to his loving wife Shelby, he is survived by his sons David Zold (Kristine) of Middlebury, and Andrew Zold (Jennifer) of Fairfield, his grandchildren Austin, Kalman, Thomas, Christopher, Julianna, and Charlotte, his sister Elizabeth Patzelt (Otto) of Fairfield, and two nieces and a nephew, Linda, Karen and Joe.
