She was pre-deceased by her beloved daughter Natalie whom she so lovingly cared for during Natalie’s lengthy illness, sisters MaryAnn Ferguson (Jack), Nancy Stewart (James) and Diane Russo. We are at peace knowing Delores if now with her daughter Natalie.

In complying with Delores’ wishes her body will be donated to science.

“Colors” by Maggie Hotchkiss

My mother is white. She is a white wedding gown. Summer is green, stems blooming from the ground. War is brown, soldiers falling dead in the mud. Love is dark blue, the end of the day sky. Math is purple. God is yellow like the sun. Water is silver. My soul is clear so no one can see me.

Those wishing to celebrate her memory can follow her lead and show kindness to persons in need.

Marie Librandi

Marie Librandi passed away peacefully just one month shy of her 101st birthday. She was truly a force of nature whom we dubbed “the Energizer Bunny”. Family meant everything to her…she was a much-loved wife, mom, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, cousin, daughter, grand-daughter, great-grand-daughter.

Marie enjoyed so much in life and enthusiastically celebrated the accomplishments of her family — births, birthdays, graduations, weddings, anniversaries, awards, new homes and numerous adventures. She was our cheerleader!

She loved so many things and loved sharing them with friends and family: swimming, dancing, bowling, traveling, reading, college study, theatergoing, raising flowers, rooting for the Yankees and the Knicks, knitting, needlework, tailoring, cooking, partying… and, notably, political organizing. In her role as an active member and leader in the League of Women Voters and AARP, she advocated relentlessly for her strong political beliefs in Florida, Hartford and Washington D.C. with luminaries such as U.S. Representative Rosa De Lauro and U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal.

Towards the end of her long and eventful life, she loved being with family, lit up when seeing Gizmo, her long-lived canine pal—and most especially—her great-grandson, Frank — whom she called the bayyy-beee!!!

We will always miss and love Marie.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, June 30, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford, CT 06460. Donna Marie (McDermott) Post

Donna Marie (McDermott) Post, 60, of Orange, died on June 17, 2022, surrounded by her family. Born in Randolph, Massachusetts on October 27, 1961, a daughter of the (late) John E. and Lorraine (Swart) McDermott of Milton, MA. In addition to her mother, Donna is survived by her husband of 32 years, Bruce Post; loving children Jennifer Post of Providence, RI, Kristin Post of Norwalk, CT, and Matthew Post of Delray Beach, FL; sister-in-law Rachel McDermott of San Jose, CA; brothers Michael (Lisa) McDermott of Hanson, MA, Dan (Julie) McDermott of Franklin, MA, and Bob (Erica) McDermott of Scituate, MA; ten nieces and nephews; four godchildren; as well as many dear friends, all whom she loved deeply. In addition to her father, Donna is preceded in death by brother John F. McDermott and nephew John E. McDermott..

Donna graduated from Westfield State University, and shortly thereafter settled in Connecticut; however, she never lost touch of her ‘roots’, nor lost her Boston accent. Her unending “Boston Strong” love of the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics were only surpassed by her love for her family- her role of mom was of highest importance. Her passion for children and education alike led to her employment at Platt Technical High School of Milford as a coach and paraprofessional. Donna was steadfast in her pursuit of self-improvement, both personally and professionally, as illustrated daily amongst those she cared for. Considered a “Sista friend” to many, Donna was particularly well known for her quick wit and willingness to lend a shoulder to lean on over a cup of coffee, should one need such. The love, support, and lifelong friendships remained dear to her heart.

Our ‘Wonder Woman’ has now gone before us. As such, words may never articulate the love she offered, nor encompass that which was expressed to her during this sad time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. A wake will be held on Friday, June 24th, from 4:30 to 7:30pm, in the funeral parlor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 25th, at 9am, in Holy Infant Church of Orange. Attendees are asked to meet directly at church. Interment will immediately follow in Orange Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered in Donna’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Richard Zitser

Richard Zitser, 89, our beloved “Papa Z,” of Woodbridge, CT passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 13, 2022. Richard was born on April 13, 1933, the son of the late Ella Burres Zitser and Saul Zitser. He was born and raised in New Haven, graduating from Hillhouse High School and later from the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce at the University of Pennsylvania in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. He made his mark at Penn in many ways, even as a finalist for Mr. Pennsylvania in 1954. After serving in the US Army for 2 years, he created a mattress company called Colonial Richard and then in 1957 joined his father at Yale Upholstery, a furniture factory in New Haven. Eventually, he purchased the old Wilson H. Lee Printing Company building in Orange, CT on the Boston Post Road, where he founded Yale Manufacturing and employed over 100 people. At Yale Manufacturing, he put his keen intellect, creativity and talent for design to good use to create custom furniture for homes across the country. Beloved by his staff, he took excellent care of his employees until the last day of the business in 1992. At that point, Richard reinvented his career by focusing on customer service at Costco Wholesale. He helped to open the Milford Costco 312 store in 1993, which is where he retired 25 years later, in 2018. Known at Costco as the “Keeper of the Valuables,” he was the one on whom everyone could count for extreme organization well into his 80s. His energy and work ethic rivaled that of his coworkers 6 decades his junior, and he mentored many of his younger co-workers during his years there. He was an avid technology enthusiast and early adopter of computers, purchasing the IBM for his business in the 1980s, and purchasing the original Macintosh on which he created beautiful computer art. He later sold computers and educated others about the benefits of computers while working at Costco. He kept up with the latest technology trends until his death. Richard was a proud member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO), served as President of the Woodbridge Country Club for several years, and was treasurer of B’nai Jacob Synagogue.
Richard always said, “You have to work hard to play hard,” and he and his wife Joanne did just that, traveling to dozens of countries, from the Soviet Union in the 1970s to Myanmar to Syria shortly before war broke out there in 2011. Whether it was across the globe or on a drive to get bagels, he and his wife Joanne went on countless adventures together, always by each other’s side. Richard impressed people all over the world with his charm and immense curiosity, meeting lifelong friends along the way. He and Joanne loved to share their experiences with others, even taking extended family on two unforgettable international trips, first to Europe and then to China, Thailand and Cambodia. Richard loved to be outdoors and was comforted by nature. The Tree of Life and Yin Yang were important symbols to him, and he was sharing his “pearls of wisdom” until his last breath.

Richard loved his family. He leaves behind his soulmate, Joanne Ketover Zitser, of Woodbridge, to whom he was married for 63 years; his three daughters, Andrea (Cary) Benjamin of Woodbridge, Emily Zitser of Bryn Mawr, PA and Jen (Todd) Zitser of Hamden; his six grandchildren, Ryan, Josh (Lindsay), Allison, Victoria, Zachary and Jadyn; one great-granddaughter, Esther; his dog, Lilly; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws; and countless friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Beverly Lavietes, and his beloved poodle, Bella, who was always by his side and died just a few weeks ago.

Thank you to all his Yale doctors who saved his life many times through the years; his caretakers at the end of his life, Ana, Tiffany and Andrea P; and his hospice nurses, Michele and Coco.

Funeral services will be held at B’nai Jacob Memorial Park, 200 Wintergreen Ave, New Haven on THURSDAY morning June 16th at 11:00 a.m. The Robert E. Shure & Son Funeral Home, New Haven is in care of Arrangements.
